  • Composites Manufacturing/ Lay-Up Technician

    We are seeking several experienced composite manufacturing technicians to help us build prototypes of a new, advanced aircraft. Candidates will work closely with our engineering team and will perform a wide variety of hands-on composite fabrication and assembly tasks in a fast-paced R&D environment. We are a small company and this position is responsible for a wide variety of composite manufacturing tasks including tooling fabrication, tool prep for lay-up, hand lay-up of pre-preg composite material using a variety of techniques and processes, vacuum bagging, precision trimming, fixturing and bonding, and general assembly.   

    Requirements

          • High school diploma or equivalent experience
          • Minimum of three years composites lay-up, bonding, or assembly experience
          • Able to read and understand composite engineering drawings and ply schedules including notes and tolerances
          • Strong craftsmanship skills and experience with various types of hand tools and hand-held power tools
          • Broad experience with a wide variety of epoxy resin systems, pre-preg materials, woven and unidirectional carbon fiber, fiberglass, structural adhesives, syntactic fillers, tooling boards and honeycomb and foam core.
          • Composite bonding experience with a variety of adhesive systems; good understanding of the bonding process and surface preparation
          • Extreme attention to detail and continual pursuit of perfection
          • Excellent listening and communication skills
          • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
          • Strong team player

    Desired Skills

          • Substantial out of autoclave pre-preg processing experience
          • RTM or VARTM experience
          • Bladder or compression molding lay-up experience
          • Autoclave/oven operating experience including software set-up and recipe creation/editing
          • Experience with ply-cutting equipment and nesting software
          • Ability/experience operating a laser projector during pre-preg lay-up
          • Ability/experience operating a laser tracker for part validation or fixture set-up
          • Significant tooling experience
          • Ability to operate a forklift

The successful applicant will be responsible for the detailed mechanical design, assembly, and testing of flight test equipment.           • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field

          • Experience with 3D modeling using SolidWorks or an equivalent CAD system

  • Motor Control FPGA Firmware Engineer

    We are looking for a Motor Control FPGA Firmware Engineer to join an engineering team developing propulsion systems for an electric aircraft. The engineer would be responsible for developing firmware to control power electronics that drive electric motors. The candidate will be involved in the power electronics architecture development as well as the firmware architecture.

    Required:

          • MSEE degree with at least four years of experience, or BSEE degree with at least six years of experience.
          • Proficiency with motor control algorithms, such as field oriented control and space vector modulation
          • Proficiency with Verilog or VHDL for FPGA development
          • Experience using FPGAs for control of power electronics
          • Solid PCB design experience from component selection to fabrication

    Desired:

          • Experience with aerospace designs and DO-254 certification
          • Familiarity with arithmetic processing such as IIR filters, CORDIC algorithms, trigonometric functions, etc.
          • Knowledge of Kalman filters and flux observers for sensorless motor control
          • Experience testing the actual hardware to verify the design against test bench results
          • Strong experience with MATLAB or Python

  • Power Electronics Engineer

    We are currently looking for a Power Electronics Engineer. This position consists of working in an engineering team developing propulsion systems for an electric aircraft. The engineer would be responsible for developing power electronics assemblies, such as high power density controllers for brushless permanent magnet motors, DC/DC converters and other weight-optimized power electronics. The candidate will participate in concept development and will be responsible for power electronics architecture trade studies, detailed performance analysis, optimization and component specification. The candidate would also be heavily involved in schematic capture, PCB layout, implementing control algorithms and performance validation testing at the power electronics and propulsion system levels.

    Required:

          • Experience designing for and troubleshooting EMI/EMC related issues
          • Familiarity with aerospace development best practices and standards
          • PhD with two years experience, MSEE degree with at least four years of experience, or a BSME degree with at least eight years of experience
          • Prior experience developing multi-kilowatt power electronics
          • A good grasp of analog and digital hardware development and validation techniques
          • Ability to model, simulate and optimize performance
          • Great interpersonal skills
          • Excellent oral and written communication skills

    Desired:

          • Familiarity with DO-160 certification and aerospace development best practices and standards
          • Experience with weight minimization is strongly desired.
          • Experience developing thermal management approaches for power electronics
          • Familiarity with the latest SiC and GaN power electronic devices
          • Experience writing and executing test procedures for design validation and qualification
          • Familiarity with MIL-STD-461
